Families in Transition & Education

If your family finds themselves in a transitional period where steady housing is a challenge, the McKinney-Vento Act (Homeless Act) provides supports and protections to ensure that your children have consistent education.  Please contact either your children's school or the Homeless Liaison, Cristy Meyer at 815-754-2310.

Assistance may include:
  • School Supplies
  • PE clothing
  • Outdoor Gear
  • Fee Waivers - registration and school sponsored field trips
  • School breakfast/lunch
  • Transportation (based upon individual circumstances)

An Illinois State Board of Education grant-funded project under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Children and Youth Program. The goal of this statewide initiative is to
disseminate information to Illinois schools and shelters as to the educational rights and needs of homeless children and youth.
